Abstract

A study was carried out to evaluate the crop performance water distribution and drainage in paddy fields after land consolidation at the Assam Jawa integrated development project area during the main season 1981/82. Parameters such as water depth drying rate and soil bearing capacity were measured from the cut and field areas and compared with those in the traditional paddy field area. Samples for crop performance evaluation were also taken from the same areas. It was observed that after land consolidation the cut area had a significant reduction in yield compared with the traditional paddy field area. Surface soil bearing capacity had also been reduced as a result of land consolidation. However drainage rate had increased and consequently the rate of build-up of bearing capacity was also faster. Water distribution was still unsatisfactory because of inadequate land levelling
