Abstract

This report attempted to present a comprehensive view of the current status of upland rice cultivation in Peninsular Malaysia. Most of the information was obtained from upland rice growing areas during the main season of 1981/82. The suitability of upland rice environments could be classified into three categories based on yielding capacity; more than 2.2 t/ha (favourable environment) 0.9-2.1 t/ha (moderately suitable environment) and below 0.9 t/ha (highly unfavourable environment). This report emphasized on the need for yield stability in upland rice as well as the importance of timely planting
