Abstract

Two preliminary studies were carried out at MARDI (Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Inst.) Station Cameron Highlands Peninsular Malaysia to evaluate five varieties of Irish potato from Holland. The first study was conducted during the wet season while the second study during the dry season. Results from the first study showed that Diamant and Cardinal varieties produced higher yields (about 16 t/ha) than the local variety (10 t/ha). In the second study Cardinal Arka Baraka and Famosa varieties also produced higher yields of 32-35 t/ha as compared with 23 t/ha for the local variety. The results obtained show that Diamant and Cardinal varieties can be recommended for planting during the rainy season while Cardinal and Arka varieties are suitable for the dry season
