Abstract
This paper describes the performance of six selected heat-tolerant tomato lines from AVRDC bred for bacterial wilt (Pseudomonas solanacearum) resistance on peat at three sites each with a different micro-environment. Comparison of overall yield and bacterial wilt resistant rating showed that these lines performed better than the local checks Banting and Local White. These lines are MT 1 MT 2 MT 3 MT 5 MT 6 and MT 10. MT 1 and MT 10 showed very high degree of tolerance to bacterial wilt. MT 1 the most consistent highest yielder produced fruit with an average weight of less than 30 g each. The small fruit size of MT 1 makes it less attractive for fresh consumption but are more suitable for processing and cooking. The fruit of other lines are bigger and suitable for dual purposes. In addition to high yield MT 2 also showed considerable resistance to bacterial wilt. MT 3 and MT 5 are also good yielders with considerable resistance to bacterial wilt. MT 6 is less resistant to bacterial wilt and thrives well only in areas where the disease is not serious
