Engineering properties of local bamboo

Citation

Salam S.A., . Engineering properties of local bamboo. pp. 8-18.

Abstract

The physical and mechanical properties of Malaysia bamboos tested according to BS 373:1957 are reported in this presentation. Three varieties of bamboo namely D. asper G. levis and B. blumeana have been selected for the purpose. Connector tests were also performed on joints of roof trusses made of bamboo. The ultimate load deflection and failure pattern at the joints were noted analysed and compared with theoretical prediction. It is concluded that bamboo trusses designed to carry usual roofing on a spacing of 2 metres could be profitably used over a span of up to 4.5 metres.
