Abstract

Mortality effects of four insecticides against males and females of a reference green leafhopper (GLH) strain were compared. Males were more susceptible than the females. The order of potency of four insecticides tested is the same for both sexes: cypermethrin carbofuran phenthoate BPMC. There were no significant differences between LD50 values for 24 h and 48 h post treatment for the four insecticides. The susceptibility of females from each of the six local populations was compared with that of the reference strain tested against the four insecticides respectively. Similar levels of susceptibility were shown by all local populations except Sekinchan population which was resistant to BPMC carbofuran and phenthoate. The low LD50 of cypermethrin against Sekinchan GLH population showed that no across-resistance occurred between the carbamate or organophosphorus compounds and the synthetic pyrethroid.
