Abstract

Panicle development stages in rice (Oryza sativa L. var. Seberang) transplanted at 30 days after seeding was identified. Panicle initiation which marks the start of the reproductive stage occurred at 45 days after transplanting of 30 days before heading. This followed by the development of primary and secondary rachis branches at 48 days and 51 days after transplanting respectively. The duration of spikelet development was about 6 days starting from 54-60 days after transplanting. Differentiation of pollen mother cell occurred at 63 days after transplanting and the exine was formed about 3 days later. Pollen grains started to mature 6 days before heading which was observed at 75 days after transplanting.
