Abstract

The productive and reproductive performances of swamp buffaloes managed on free grazing in open pasture at MARDI Research Station Bukit Ridan Pahang Malaysia from 1976 to 1984 were reported. The respective weights at birth and at 36 months of age were 30.5 kg and 408.9 kg for the male and 29.8 kg and 363.1 kg for the female. The average daily weight gain was 0.35 kg and 0.31 kg for the male and female respectively. Age at first calving was 47.8 months. Intervals from calving to conception and between calving were 193 days and 497 days respectively. The possible causes of low reproductive performance were also discussed.
