Abstract
Rolling resistance measurements were carried out to investigate the influence of non-rubbers (mainly proteinaceous components) on the strength of adhesion of rubber to various surfaces. A 'family' of cis-polyisoprene vulcanisates prepared with optically smooth surfaces were tested against polished ice at four different temperatures. These were also tested at room temperature against glass and PMMA at three levels of relative humidity. The results show that non-rubbers can have a marked influence on the rolling adhension
