Abstract

Management of Thanjavur wilt of coconut is possible only if the disease is detected in the early stage. Hence a chemodiagnostic test (EDTA test) was developed. The case study of 100 palms in the hot spot area for two years indicated that the EDTA - Test is not only a dependable method but was also helpful to detect the disease 5-11 months prior to the onset of the external symptoms. It is also possible to detect the disease in palms which die without expressing bleeding symptoms
