Corlett R.T., . Sexual dimorphism in the reproductive phenology of Ficus grossularioides Burm. f. in Singapore. pp. 149-155. ISSN 0025-1291
Abstract
Ficus grossularioides is a dioecious pioneer shrub fig which shows strong sexual differentiation of reproductive phenology in equatorial Singapore. Male trees show both within-tree and to a variable extent between-tree synchronization. Synchronization between male trees was greatest for crops initiated when heavy rain ended exceptional dry periods. Most female trees show neither within-tree nor between-tree synchronization and most bear syconia at all times. This reproductive phenology may reflect selection for synchronized wasp release in male plants and continuous seed dispersal in female plants although this explanation is not entirely satisfactory. The absence of regular intense climatic cues in Singapore may make fine-tuning of phenological patterns impossible
