Abstract

The sensitivity of sorghum to photoinhibition as a sequence of infection by a parasite Striga hermonthica was investigated using quantum yield analysis. During underground development (d-40) of the parasite infection caused a 30 reduction in host photosynthesis. After exposure to high light (2000 umol/m2/s) there was a greater reduction in quantum yield in Striga infected sorghum. However percentage reduction of maximum carbon assimilation showed no significant difference between infected and uninfected sorghum suggesting that Striga infection was affecting one aspect of inhibiton from intense light
