Abstract
Over the period February 1992 to October 1993 the birds of forest in Belum and Temengor were surveyed at eight survey sites between 300 and 1050 m altitude. Twelve visits were made to the area at various seasons and surveys were carried out on foot by boat and at 300 and 1050 m by use of mist nets. A total of 155 species was recorded including 13 montane specialists and 48 species not recorded elsewhere in Temengor Forest Reserve. Many of the species are uncommon and are rarely found elsewhere in Malaysia including a small but distinctive northern faunal component a montane component and a hill slope/bamboo component. There is need of swift action to maintain the habitat of these species before it is destroyed
