Hao B. Z., . and Wu J. L., . Ultrastructure of laticifers in drying bark induced by over-exploitation of Hevea brasiliensis with ethephon. pp. 286-292. ISSN 0127-7065
Abstract
Bark dryness was induced in Hevea brasiliensis (PB 86) by stimulation at monthly intervals with 10 ethephon and tapping on IS d/1 for four months. Laticifers near the dry tapping cut were observed under transmission electron microscope they showed no obvious latex coagulation in situ. The laticifers were partially empty with rubber particles and other organelles greatly reduced in number. The nuclei appeared electron-lucent with partially disorganised nuclear membranes. The lutoids were often filled with electron-dense materials in which some small rubber particles were embedded. With many lutoids broken some large vacuoles appeared in the laticifers. A considerable amount of the myelin-like structures formed in the laticifers. These ultrastructural changes are believed to represent a developmental stage of the bark dryness induced by over-exploitation of the trees with ethephon.
