Abstract
Results of the study revealed that the Research Branch of the Department of Agriculture Sarawak was small in terms of research facilities and personnel as compared with MARDI, PORIM and RRIM. As a result, the applied research had been conducted without going into details and this affected the production of appropriate technologies. The study also indicated low adoption of the technology among farmers, especially in cultural practices. The implication was that the yield per hectare of the primary and secondary commodities was lagging far behind the Semenanjung. Besides the agricultural technology, there were also other factors which needed to enhance the the agricultural development of Sarawak. These included good communication system, improvement in extension, zoning for agricultural production, land improvement, adequate supply of farm inputs and credit, infrastructure, incentives to farmers, education, marketing services, and having a co-ordinating body in formulation of agricultural projects planning and policy.
