Abstract

Wildlife is part of natural environment, just as flora and fauna. They are part of natural biodiversity which encompasses the natural environment and producers of the environment. Thus, they are important parts of ecotourism, a segment of tourism that involves traveling, admiring, enjoying and studying the scenery, its wild plants and animals as well as any cultural features. The Wildlife Protection Act 1972 is enacted to protect plants, wild animals and birds in the park. The aim of this article is to discuss whether the protection provided in this Act is sufficient in developing a balanced economic, environmental and social goals within an ethical framework. This article points out some related insights of the sections for better understanding of the Act. Selected controversial issues of the wildlife protection will be focused. Some recommendations are suggested to improve the scope of protection provided in the Act in achieving the real goals of sustainable ecotourism.
