Abstract

Results of a long term experiment lasting 9 years to determine the effects of different rates methods and frequencies of application of three N carriers on the growth and yield of mature oil palm Elaeis guineensis grown on an ultisol were examined. The three N sources: sulphate of ammonia urea and ammonium nitrate were applied at rates of 0.8 and 1.6 kg of N per palm per year. The production functions derived from the multiple regression analyses indicated that sulphate of ammonia is a more cost effective N fertiliser
