Abstract

Soils under different cover establishment were sampled at yearly intervals and their humic/fulvic fraction isolated for analyses of major nutrient elements. Results of analysis showed that there is an increase in the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus associated with the humic substances at each sampling. The effect of covers in enhancing the amount of nutrients associated with the humic substances was observed although differences between the various covers were not significant. Soil properties as well as the nutritional status of oil palm in relation to the data reported are briefly discussed
