Abstract

A 3-year-old Saanen cross doe was presented to the University Veterinary Hospital Universiti Putra Malaysia with complaints of inappetence and recumbency. Upon physical examination the doe was dull depressed and tachycardic with 5 dehydration. Additionally the doe had congested mucous membrane with capillary refill time of 4 seconds. Throughout hospitalisation the doe was on sternal recumbency weak as well as had rumen atony. Lactated Ringers and dexamethasone were given intravenously as fluid therapy and anti-inflammatory while oxytetracycline was administered as antibiotic against bacterial infection. However the doe was then euthanised due to grave prognosis. The bacterial culture of the blood collected isolated Burkholderia cepacia. Upon post mortem of the doe multiple abscesses were seen throughout visceral organs such as lungs liver kidney and spleen. Bacterial culture of lung liver and kidney samples revealed Burkholderia pseudomallei. The goat was diagnosed to be septicaemia caused by B. cepacia and B. pseudomallei.
