Abstract
A total of 105 small mammals belonging to 9 species were captured at the study area of Ulu Gombak forest in Selangor Darul Ehsan. Among these 30 of them were infested with ectoparasites. The ectoparasites identified comprised of 8 groups namely the mesostigmatid mites larval trombiculid mites or chiggers ticks lice fleas listrophorids myobiids and cheyletid mites. Mesostigmatid mites possessed the highest infestation of 22.6 and the lowest being 3.2 for the flea andcheyletid mites. The softfurred rat Sundamys muelleri and the spiny-furred rat Maxomys rajah were noted to harbour the maximum occurrence of the ectoparasites.
