Abstract
The results of this study revealed that in the collecting of small mammals the trap-success in forest habitat is much lower than that in forest fringe habitats. It was also found that in the forest although the diversity of animal species was high there was apparantly a lower density of individual species. This may be compared to the fringe habitats where there was a lower diversity of species with apparently high density of few individuals. The bait preference study revealed that banana oilpalm fruits and sweet potato are suitable baits and banana is shown to be the most favoured among the five different baits tested.
